TOOLS & STACK
FOR

Children with cancer experience high rates hospitalization during diagnosis and
post-treatment therapy and recovery.
For 6 weeks - 3 months, they are safely in the hands of trained and experienced oncologists, nurses and medical experts, undergoing radiation/chemo and treatment.
But the real challenge starts at discharge once you know you're going home.
The entire burden of medical management, day to day care, nutrition etc
It all falls on the caregiver.

CORE CHALLENGE
INCREASED BURDEN ON THE
CAREGIVER
REDUCED QUALITY OF CARE AT HOME, FOR A CHILD WITH CANCER
Reduced care quality and outcomes after transitioning home is a big problem for pediatric cancer caregivers and most importantly, the child recovering from cancer.
WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS DO THEY EXPERIENCE
Unsafe med and nutritional interactions
Caregivers often make mistakes with medical regimens
We still have 8-12 months of continued recovery with regular check ups
Parents/ Caregivers need time to get adjusted to their new reality
Inconsistent access & availability of social aid services
Growing financial challenges
Some parents/caregivers have more than one child to also
care for
GOAL
Conduct a parallel/comparative study with
Cancer Caregivers &
Pediatric Oncologists, Nurses and Other Medical Expert
To co-create new care strategies for caregivers transitioning home with pediatric cancer patients

Our research process & discovery was focused on capturing this time frame from both perspectives to understand wants, needs, desires, challenges and necessities.
STUDY DESIGN
GUIDED DISCUSSION
Running a guided discussion prior to generative activities always helps set a direction for the engagement, we had caregivers, nurses and oncologists talking about their patient care engagement for the prior week and share relevant stories or insights that fueled conversation.
CONSTRUCTING PARALLEL TIMELINE / JOURNEY MAPS
Conducting an interactive event mapping activity was key. We were able to strategically map challenges, systemic health service challenges, wants, needs and opportunities.
INVESTIGATING SPECIFIC CHALLENGES ON DISCHARGE DAY
A key requirement to ensuring effective care at home is a smooth experience on discharge day. We posed targeted research questions to both groups to understand key engagements, interactions, resources and necessities for caregivers.
