Project Overview
Children with cancer experience high hospitalization rates, both at time of diagnosis and post-hospitalization therapy and recovery.
While pediatric oncology providers play an important role in medical management, the burden of navigating the healthcare system and providing the hands-on, day-to-day care of a child with cancer ultimately falls on caregivers.
Roles that caregivers are expected to take on include provision of direct care and medication supervision.
Assisting with activities of daily living, coordinating complex health care services inside and outside of the hospital setting, and providing emotional support.
Figuring out how to juggle all these healthcare needs can lead caregivers’ to experience physical stress, negative emotions, increased financial burden, and undesirable outcomes.

Executing focus groups with clinicians and caregivers
Research Analysis + Synthesis
We conducted a targeted research study with pediatric oncologists and caregivers to understand their challenges/hurdles and identify potential opportunities for improving healthcare services/experiences for this patient group.
